HSM408 Current Issues in Health Services Management (8)

Abstract

Students develop an understanding of determinants of health and other issues currently impacting on health services, and how to analyse health policy aimed at addressing these. Students analyse the implementation of health policy and other initiatives requiring changes to resource distribution or shared values in their own workplace.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify and critically analyse a variety of issues in health service delivery that could be considered "current";
  • be able to critically appraise issues in health service delivery in terms of their ethical considerations, place in health and social policy, importance in resource allocation and managerial decision making;
  • be able to synthesise knowledge of contemporary health policy and its implementation with an understanding of the complexity of their health services management context ;
  • be able to analyse health policy with particular attention to managerial processes within their scope of influence.
