Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- show that they are fully aware of the key components comprising any record keeping and archiving management system; - be able to determine appropriate practices and procedures for capturing both analogue and digital records; and - demonstrate that they are familiar with various approaches to appraisal and how they may be implemented.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics: - Aims and characteristics of record keeping systems including DIRKS and electronic document records management systems (EDRMS).
- Key components of the record keeping infrastructure including metadata schemes and their relevance.
- The impact of technology; digitisation and digital objects.
- Appraisal in a range of archives and records settings including the identification of functions and activities to be documented through records using business classification, and capture. |
