Abstract

This subject provides students with the opportunity to engage in a range of  professional tasks within an information agency for a period of normally three weeks duration. They will gain a deeper understanding of how that type of organisation services its particular clientele, and they will develop their own skills and knowledge within a practical and collegial setting.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to provide a comprehensive overview of a particular information agency;
- be able to relate information management theory to practical situations;
- show that they understand and can evaluate the role and functions of the information agency, the community it serves and the services it offers;
- be able to articulate their professional learning experiences from their participation in a professional site for a set period of time (maximum three week placement); and
- reflect on their professional learning experiences from their practical involvement through discussions in Interact and completion of their placement report.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- Participation in a specific information environment for a period of two to three weeks
- Reflective practice in action
