Abstract

This subject provides an understanding of the fundamentals of wireless communications including communication protocols, radio frequencies, transmission methods, and different contemporary wireless networking standards. It also provides students with experience in current and emerging wireless communication technologies.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to describe wireless networking concepts and their application to real life situations;
  • be able to illustrate wireless signalling techniques and describe radio frequency communications;
  • be able to investigate and evaluate various wireless networking techniques, protocols and standards;
  • be able to compare and contrast different wireless networks in terms of size, speed, limitations and applications;
  • be able to investigate and evaluate emerging wireless networking technologies;
  • be able to investigate theoretical and practical issues relating to wireless technology and communicate the results to specialist and non-specialist audiences;
  • be able to explain the challenges and security issues posed by wireless networks.
