AbstractThis subject focuses on the role and value of information, information systems and information technology in modern organisations. It provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge relating to the planning, implementation and management of systems and technologies and to develop a critical awareness of the need for knowledge workers to be widely informed about technology related issues in their employment. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- describe the role of IACT in organisational activities; - explain the value of information to an organisation; - discuss the need to monitor and manage the information, information systems and the information technology in an organisation; - describe the networked organisation and identify benefits accruing from implementing networks; - define and explain electronic commerce and its infrastructure; - itemise and describe a variety of critical IACT in modern organisations; - explain collaborative approaches to work and the technologies that enhance such work; - articulate reasons for management involvement in planning for IS and IT at all levels across an organisation; - describe the major ethical and social issues related to the adoption of IACT in modern organisations; and - identify options for value adding and value-creation via the use of IACT. |
