ITE529 Cross Platform Game Development (8)

Abstract

Unity is a cross-platform game creation system.  In this subject, students will use Unity to understand the principles of game design, production, and management. Students will create, implement and critique a game that can be deployed across diverse platforms and mobile devices. The subject will also cover topics essential for good game design – including game narrative, animation, sprites, artificial intelligence and game physics.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to critically evaluate the process of game development from design through to launch and operation;
  • be able to implement computer games in a game engine using selection and repetition commands, expressions, functions, game co-ordinates and simulated perspective;
  • be able to demonstrate original and innovative approaches to the creative development of a game;
  • be able to implement game development and production strategies;
  • be able to develop concept art and design specifications for heads-up displays, splash screens, start screens and game field screens consistent with an identified game genre;
  • be able to develop technical specifications for game mechanics, artificial intelligence, physics, sound, game play and overall usability;
  • be able to deploy a game to a mobile device.
