ITI214 Introduction to Computer Networking (8)

Abstract

The aim of this subject is to give students the skills and knowledge required to complete the Network+ industry certification examination developed by the Computer Technology Industry Association (CompTIA).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to identify the major physical network topologies given a diagram, schematic or description;
be able to identify a MAC (Media Access Control) address and its parts;
be able to identify the seven layers of the OSI (Open Systems Interconnect) model and their functions;
be able to identify the basic capabilities of the UNIX / Linux / Mac OS X Server, Netware, Windows Appleshare IP (Internet Protocol) server operating systems; and
be able to troubleshoot client network services, and identify the causes a problem.
