Abstract

The goal of this subject is to give practicing teachers the skills to implement a professional development model to enhance the teaching of students through engaged learning and technology integration. This is achieved by completing the Microsoft Partners in Learning program, a peer coaching model designed to train practicing teachers to serve as peer coaches in how to integrate technology to engage student learning. Three Microsoft Office applications are also included in the subject content and exam: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and OneNote.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to explain the concept and value of peer coaching;
- be able to identify how peer coaching can support their school's educational goals;
- be able to describe how peer coaching can be managed and facilitated;
- be able to implement a peer coaching program;
- be able to build a coaching portfolio;
- be able to integrate technology using Microsoft applications using cross-curricular, project-based units;
- be able to access internet resources and create digital information for effective communication;
- be able to use technology applications to facilitate communication;
- be able to plan, design, publish and evaluate a problem-based series of web lessons.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
* Structure and content of peer coaching programs
* Effective technology integration.
* Project based curriculum and instruction.
* Effective communication and collaboration.
* Managing a peer coaching program, including program scheduling, program resources and tools,program support, and the peer coaching community.
* Facilitating a peer coaching program, including organising and implementing coaching sessions, meeting individual teacher needs, reflection and evaluation of coaching sessions.
