Abstract

The goal of this subject is to provide the opportunity to use action research in educational institutions, businesses or organisations. It will provide a method for trying ideas in practice as a means of improvement and as a means of increasing knowledge about teaching/training and learning.  The furthering of Microsoft Office skills will focus on the Excel and Outlook applications.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:


  • be able to outline the current position and future direction of peer coaching as a personal development strategy, both in Australia and overseas;


  • be able to review any plans (past, present) to integrate technology into a standards-based curriculum;


  • be able to plan an action research project as part of an organizations/educational institution’s improvement plan for learning;


  • be able to outline the implications for students and teachers, of using the internet;


  • be able to explore new ideas, strategies and specific tools for integrating technology into the curriculum;


  • be able to integrate technology in a standards-based curriculum using Microsoft applications;


  • be able to use technology to acquire, access, analyse and evaluate information;


  • be able to deliver product or activity results electronically in a variety of media;


  • be able to ensure the ongoing success of the peer coaching program in the school environment.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- The coaching process as personal development for educators.
- Best coaching practices.
- Visioning and leadership.
- Value of feedback and reflective skill development.
- The Action Research Model.
- Critical thinking and problem solving classroom activities.
- Use and evaluation of online resources and tools, including copyright implications.
- Internet search strategies.
- The coaching community.
- Teacher partnerships and global interaction within the education environment.
- Peer coaching, including trust and relationships, continuum of roles, and how to have an impact
- Effective online learning in peer coaching, including the use of online learning tools in peer coaching, building a coaching community, reinforcement of concepts between sessions, and usability of online tools.
