ITI555 Operating System Essentials (8)
Abstract| This is an introductory subject which creates a foundation for the rest of the Masters program. The subject is designed to provide an overview of operating system concepts and how they are implemented in Microsoft Windows 2003 Server. It will provide students with the knowledge necessary to understand and identify the tasks involved in supporting Windows 2003 networks. Students will be prepared for implementing and maintaining enterprise networks that also include client operating systems such as Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP. The subject goes into detail about installing, configuring and managing client and server operating systems. It will also teach students how to manage and maintain physical and logical devices; manage users, computers and groups; manage and maintain access to resources and the server environment; and implement disaster recovery. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to install Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 Server and upgrade to Windows XP Professional & Windows 2003 Server;
- be able to automate an installation of Windows XP Professional by using answer files and uniqueness database files (UDFs), or by using the Microsoft Windows 2003 system preparation tool;
- be able to configure and manage hardware on a computer running Windows XP Professional and Windows 2003 Server;
- be able to manage disks;
