JST150 Introduction to Tertiary Studies (Policing) (8)

Abstract

The aim of the subject is to prepare students for the academic requirements of the Bachelor of Policing (Investigations) and Bachelor of Policing. The subject furthers students' skills for undertaking Bachelor-level policing studies. The subject provides opportunities for students to learn to manage their study time effectively, think critically, undertake research, organise and summarise information to meet assessment requirements, write essays or reports, reference correctly and use information and communication technology for learning in a policing studies context.

Enrolment restrictions

This subject is restricted to students who have not previously undertaken tertiary studies and are enrolled in Bachelor of Policing or Bachelor of Policing(Investigations).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to identify their learning style and discuss how that style may be utilised for effective learning in their Bachelor-level studies
- be able to prepare a study plan designed to assist in achieving study goals whilst also meeting personal and family commitments
- be able to think critically about, and undertake research on, selected topics and issues within the relevant degree being undertaken
- be able to organise and summarise information for the purpose of meeting assessment requirements
- be able to plan and write an essay on a topic relevant to policing studies
- be able to reference correctly according to CSU requirements
- be able to use information and communications technology, particularly within the CSU online learning environment, to support learning
