JST445 Criminology Honours Dissertation Part-time (32)

Abstract

Students undertaking the criminology honours dissertation should demonstrate a clear understanding of a specific field of study at an advanced level. They should demonstrate clear thinking and an ability to integrate theory and method in a logical manner. The student must be able to work in a concentrated way over an extended period and must present their research in a scholarly fashion. This subject requires students to engage in original research and submit a 15,000 word dissertation.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate rigorous engagement in original research in order to address an area of criminological concern
- be able to critically use theory in the development of an original research project
- be able to present an original research project in a scholarly manner

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- individual design of a research project - design and successful completion of an ethics application where applicable - undertaking the research project - presenting the findings of the research project in a scholarly fashion as an honours dissertation
