JWD401 Jewellery Design: Form and Content (8)

Abstract

This subject will examine jewellery of various genre. Students will undertake studies in the research, design and manufacture of jewellery relevant to individually selected culture, subculture, race, fashion or socio-economic criteria. In addition, design and manufacture for elite competitions will be undertaken.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- investigate criteria relevant to various groups in society and apply the results to these investigations to a range of visual images for the design and manufacture of jewellery.
In addition students will be able to address the issues involved in submitting to elite jewellery design competitions, particularly:
- the understanding of culture/s, subculture/s race, fashion, socio economic groups
- imagery related to the above
- design of jewellery for the above groups
- understanding the competition brief
- innovative designing within the briefs criteria
- presentation and manufacture within the competitions exhibition criteria

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
with emphasis on rigorous design innovation an technical efficient: - criteria informing various subcultures in society; - visual imagery reflecting the subcultures nature; - design of jewellery reflecting the subcultures nature; - understanding the competition brief; - designing within the parameters of the brief; - presentation of designs and/or the manufactured piece/s; - presentation within the given time frame.
