LNG230 Indonesian 3 (8)

Abstract

This is a continuation of Indonesian 2, which assumes that students have already mastered the communication skills and most of grammatical elements of the language. The subject provides further advanced knowledge about the language, develops more communicative skills, and involves students in some Indonesian social and cultural experiences in the settings similar to those of real Indonesia.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- communicate in Indonesian in a variety of situations for various purposes.;
- develop an understanding and appreciate a wide range of Indonesian societies; cultures, and lifestyles;
- write some forms of discourse in Indonesian;
- read and comprehend various Indonesian texts;
- deliver speeches in some special occasions.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
- Reading in Indonesian current social issues such as seasons, music, trips, hotels, mass media, ceremonies and festivals, and sight-seeing in Bali. - New grammar points - New vocabularies and idioms - Language functions practice - Reading and making summaries of Indonesian short stories - Writing letters and corresponding in Indonesian - Viewing TV and listening to radio programs - Watching and participating in Indonesian arts performance : music and songs, dances, drama, poetry reading. - Visiting special occasions or ceremonies in Indonesian community e.g. families, student associations.
