Abstract|
The corporate governance of IT is increasingly important to both the governing body and the senior IT management of organisations. This subject uses the Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) framework and the IT Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach to explore issues in IT Governance relevant to IT practitioners and to allow students to develop the skills needed to evaluate and implement IT Governance measures across a variety of organisational types. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to explain how IT Governance fits within wider corporate governance guidelines, and why it is important to the organisation;
- be able to compare and contrast the underlying philosophy, scope and application of various approaches to IT Governance;
- be able to appraise how various approaches to IT Governance might fulfill the requirements of the Committee of Sponsoring Organisations (COSO) requirements for the IT control environment;
- be able to critically evaluate the appropriateness of IT Governance in a given organisational context;
- be able to justify and apply the steps in achieving better alignment between IT and organisational goals;
- be able to evaluate what is required to achieve a shared understanding of how IT is governed amongst all stakeholders;
- be able to apply elements of various IT Governance approaches in an organisational context.
