MGT353 Management and Sustainability (8)

Abstract

This subject focuses on the major issues confronting westernised society in relation to developing sustainable business activities. The focus is on the sustainable management of the business resources: including economic resources, social resources and natural resources. Topics include: the sustainability debate explored in an Australian and global context; contemporary problems and historical perspectives on the management of human resources, the relationships between business and the natural environment, and the philosophical and ethical basis of business and its role in society.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Be able to demonstrate an understanding of changing views about management in light of the sustainability debate;
Be able to critically analyse a variety of perspectives on the nature of sustainability;
Be able to express their own value position on the importance of sustainability and management; and
Be able to evaluate their own and others' actions from various theoretical perspectives.

Business ethics Why bother with sustainability? Environmental, economic and social change Business sustainability Implementing sustainable management - ideologies and paradigms Implementing sustainable management - ideas into actions Bringing it all together - unified management systems.
