MGT596 Embedding Quality and Innovation (8)

Abstract

Quality, organisational ethics and values are interrelated. However, organisations have different stakeholders who will each have their perception of quality that reflects their perceived needs, ethics and values. How these different perceptions can be reconciled will be examined in this subject. Leaders play an important role in embedding innovation and quality and the competencies and activities related to this will be explored. Finally, the impact leaders can have on changing perceptions of quality and how such changes create innovation opportunities which can influence quality perceptions will be reviewed.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the relationship of organisational and individual values and attitudes and impacts on processes and outcomes;
- Be able to undertake an analysis of organisational values which can influence and be influenced by leadership; and
- Be able to develop and implement leadership strategies for reconciling organisational and individual differences in values in order to embed innovation and quality in organisational processes and outcomes.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
a. Organisational and individual values and belief systems;
b. Inter relationship of quality, organisational ethics and values in organisations;
c. Reconciliation of perceptual differences in values;
d. Leadership roles and capacities in embedding innovation and quality in organisations;
e. Impacts of organisational leaders on changing perceptions of quality;
f. Approaches to creating opportunities for innovation.
