OCC300 Enabling Strategies: Working with Individuals (16)
Abstract
This subject builds on knowledge developed in OCC100, OCC201, OCC204, OCC205, and the BMS subjects. The subject focuses on enabling strategies/interventions that occupational therapists use to facilitate occupational engagement of individuals who have been affected by physical, social, emotional, mental, and/or cognitive disorders. Students will develop skills in the practical application of occupational reasoning and theoretical principles, related to specific conditions. Students will develop their reasoning skills to facilitate program planning, implementation and evaluation of appropriate enabling strategies/interventions when working with children, adolescents, adults and older people. This subject will provide an integrated approach to the theory and practice of working with individuals in a variety of settings.

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate professional reasoning to identify the effectes that physical, social, emotional, mental, and/or cognitive impairments may have on occupational performance;
- be able to design and plan a range of enabling strategies/interventions, informed by theory and assessments, to enable an individual to engage in relevant occupations;
- be able to use a range of evidence to support professional reasoning;
- be able to work collaboratively on problem-based scenarios to reflect team work professional reasoning;
- be able to use a range of enabling skills to promote occupational engagement of individuals.
