AbstractThis subject will develop students ability to learn through experience of clinical practice. Students will learn to transfer knowledge from theory to clinical practice, to undertake reflection and self-appraisal while in the clinical setting, and to critique the knowledge acquired through clinical experience. Students will apply skills of clinical reasoning and professional behaviour. Students enrolling in this subject will be expected to have a comprehensive level of knowledge and practical skills in cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, neurological and paediatric physiotherapy practice. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to list the requirements of the Australian Standards of Physiotherapy
- be able to operate in a physiotherapy clinical setting within their own role and according to responsibilities
- be able to implement sound clinical reasoning processes in the clinical setting to provide safe and effective physiotherapy interventions
- be able to demonstrate the ability to accurately self-appraise performance in clinical practice settings
- be able to critically appraise knowledge obtained in the clinical setting
- be able to describe the contribution of clinical experience to their body of professional knowledge.

- Requirements for achievement of the Australian standards for physiotherapy (APC 2006)
- Reflective practice in action and on-action
- Developing accurate self-appraisal skills
- Clinical reasoning
- Critical application and appraisal of knowledge in the clinical setting

Work Place LearningThis subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 25 days duration.
Students undertaking this 5 week placement "Fundamentals of Physiotherapy Clinical Practice" will be expected to have a substantive level of knowledge and practical skills in cardiorespiratory ,musculoskeletal, neurolgical and paediatric physiotherapy practice. Workplace learning in this subject will provide students with the opportunity to develop sound clinical reasoning processes, apply and critically appraise knowledge obtained in the workplace setting, develop with guidance skills in self apraisal of their practice and develop professional practice awareness and responsibilites. Skills developed in PHS303 will be foundational and pre requisite to workplace learning undertaken and assessed in PHS401.
