PKM364 Outdoor Recreation Design (8)

Abstract

Outdoor recreation and ecotourism includes activities that often require a range of facilities such as tracks, camping areas, open space and passive recreational spaces. This subject builds on existing knowledge in recreation or ecotourism to investigate the philosophy and background information associated with the design of ecotourism  and outdoor recreation developments. The subject aims to take students from an appreciation of the historical dimension of recreation/ecotourism design, through the philosophical dimensions of sustainability, to the design and development of a facility and its surrounding environment, as well as the formalised business planning requirements. There is no residential school associated with this subject. On completion, students apply initiative, sound judgment and problem solving skills to address a range of problems and issues associated with the design of outdoor recreation and ecotourism facilities.
