POD307 Rheumatology and Musculoskeletal Pathology (8)

Abstract

This subject reviews and extends the student's knowledge of a broad range of topics comprising pain, rheumatology and musculoskeletal pathology. Students review acute and chronic pain, pain assessment, and the impact of pain on functional ability.
The study of rheumatology illustrates a spectrum of conditions ranging from pathology characterised by arthropathy, to soft tissue rheumatological conditions. Musculoskeletal pathology involving the lower limb is studied in detail, and analysis of a range of management strategies is incorporated. The pharmacology of a range of relevant medicines will be addressed, to enable students to evaluate the medical management of rheumatological and musculoskeletal conditions. This study of pharmacology and the use of prescription medicines, will also contribute to the student's knowledge and skill development as they work towards becoming competent prescribers.
