PPP124 Policing and Road Safety (8)
Abstract
Vehicle use on roads poses a significant safety risk to the general community, both other road-users and pedestrians. This subject examines the police role in reducing this risk and in dealing with the negative consequences of road use. Legislation, specific policing strategies, police/stakeholder relationships and investigation, all in relation to traffic-related matters, are addressed in this subject. |

explain the role and relationship of the police service to other key road safety stakeholders;

apply appropriate methods of enforcement to a variety of road safety related situations and offences;

identify ethical issues related to the use of discretion in relation to enforcement of legislation;

fully investigate a variety of incidents, including the completion of relevant records and documents;

fully investigate a collision, and complete all required paper-work;

complete statements and prepare briefs for submission to court;

explain the links between drug and alcohol use and road safety;

explain the NSW Police Safe Driving Policy, and
-
work effectively in teams and demonstrate the use of reflective practice to improve performance.
