PSY431 Organisation Development and Change (8)

Abstract

Organisation Development (OD) is concerned with the application of behavioural science knowledge and organisational theory to improve organisational functioning. This subject links the traditional focus of Organisation Development, the process of change (value orientation) to the content of change (objective perspective) - special concentration will be on applied interventions that directly influence organisational effectiveness and performance.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
* understand the necessary skills and knowledge required of an effective OD practitioner
* be able to describe how planned change can be adapted to fit different kinds of conditions
* be able to explain how the diagnostic process discovers the underlying courses of problems at the organisational group and industrial levels of analysis
* understand the different elements of a successful change programme
* be able to provide an overview of the interventions used currently in OD and a guide to select among alternative interventions
* understand the issues associated with evaluating OD intervention
* be able to examine the differences in OD applications in a cross-cultural context and in different settings
* be able to review key important trends and their implications on OD practice in the future
