Abstract
This subject extends the study of evidence-based psychotherapy with adult clients, with a focus on schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders; eating disorders; personality disorders; substance-related disorders; dissociative disorders; and sexual and gender identity disorders. The subject will also introduce a number of new and emerging treatments, including schema therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy and mindfulness. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to outline the nature and aetiologies of complex psychopathological syndromes, including traumatic stress disorders , eating disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, personality disorders, substance-related disorders, co-morbid conditions, and sexual and gender identity disorders
- be able to Identify factors influencing the planning and implementation of treatments of these disorders with different client groups.
- be able to design and implement a psychotherapeutic intervention for clients from a range of specific clinical populations and/or their families, reflecting upon the appropriate modifications required for each population
- be able to describe the features and methods of several newer treatment modalities.

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- Intervention strategies for a range of disorders (e.g., eating disorders, personality disorders, traumatic stress disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders).
- Interventions for schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders
- Theoretical and empirical foundations of the practice of clinical psychology with specific clinical populations
- The principles and practice of group therapy
- New and emerging therapies
