SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics: - a comparative overview of the history, variety and diversity of family and gender relations, e.g. nuclear and extended family structures in Europe and the Middle East; changes in Australian family structures over time; cultural conceptions of relatedness, gender and family responsibilities
- the sociology of sexuality and its relationship to social structures and cultural practices
- the politics of family, the family values movement and governmentality
- the sociology of gender, violence, masculinity and power
