VIT301 Vine Physiology (8)
AbstractTo apply vine physiology in a practical situation requires a basic knowledge and understanding of the grapevine and the ability to evaluate what is happening in the vineyard at any particular time.
The topics covered in this subject provide a comprehensive review of the vegetative and reproductive anatomy and developmental physiology of the vine. Each topic includes a list of objectives, a brief introduction, a series of learning exercises, and a few selected readings.
This is a resource based subject. Some reading materials are provided, but it is expected that students will seek out additional sources of information on their own (or with minimal guidance from the subject coordinator). Students will be expected to access text books and on-line resources through the library.
It is a constructive subject, not a transmitted one. Students are expected to learn rather than to be taught. The learning exercises are an essential part of this process. Students will need to spend some time in the vineyard to complete these exercises and they will be assessed throughout the session. |

* Anatomical aspects of grapevine propagation;
* Carbohydrate production of the vine;
* Carbohydrate utilisation;
* Vine growth;
* Reserves of the grapevine;
* Regulation of flowering in grapevines;
* Fruit growth and its regulation;
* Fruit quality;
* Environmental control of fruit growth and composition. |
