Abstract

This subject involves placement in professional practice to undertake a clinical research project. Candidates develop advanced knowledge and skills underpinning the requirements of professional practice and conduct a clinical research project while undertaking Workplace Learning in an enterprise. Candidates will produce a body of significant and original clinical research/investigation outcomes. Skills in the design, implementation, analysis and communication of clinical research/investigation will be obtained, leading to significant original contributions to the discipline knowledge and professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • Produce significant and original research/investigation outcomes
  • Develop and demonstrate effective communication skills to present the results of original research/investigation outcomes for external review/examination against international standards and to communicate the results to peers, both internally and externally
  • Develop and demonstrate skills to design, prepare, undertake and complete, analyse, theorise and communicate research/investigation that provides an important and original contribution to discipline knowledge and/or professional practice

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • Undertake placement in an on-campus enterprise which is relevant to the selected discipline
  • Undertake an individual clinical research project
  • Deliver at least one presentation of the research outcomes
  • Preparation and completion of a dissertation of a body of work from the clinical research project

Work Place Learning

This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 50 days duration. The Workplace learning will be undertaken at an enterprise, which is relevant to the selected discipline, and will be undertaken in parallel with the clinical research porject in a part-time capacity.  The amount of Workplace Learning is variable and is negotiated between the candidate and supervisor(s).
