Graduates of the Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education will have an understanding of the broad socio-economic and political context in which adult and vocational education is located; an awareness of social justice and equity policies and their application in a range of teaching and learning environments; knowledge about adolescent and adult learning; skills in teaching and learning; skills in the assessment of student learning and the evaluation of training programs; skills in and knowledge of training in workplace environments; expertise in communication; expertise in face-to-face and digital teaching and learning environments; the capacity to design and manage adult and vocational education programs; the ability to analyse and think critically and constructively about current developments in vocational education and training, and research skills that enhance professional and workplace practice.

This is represented as VET02C - Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points and will appear as a FCR conditional upon the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning. NOTE: student must have completed the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and provided a copy of their Certificate and transcript prior to enrolling in EEB312. Actual course duration with additional credit package (FTE) is 1.75.

Associate Degree in Adult and Vocational Education

The duration of the course in equivalent full time years is 1.0. Students who have completed the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment receive an additional standard credit package. This is represented as VET02C - CertificateIV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points and will appear as a FCR conditional on the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning. Actual course duration with additional credit package(FTE): 0.75.

Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.

Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education (with specialisations)

Students must have a recognised vocational qualification as noted below:

- a Certificate III as part of a completed apprenticeship leading to trade recognition and accreditation and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience;
or
- an advanced certificate (Certificate IV), associate diploma, diploma or the appropriate tertiary qualification and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience;
or
- possess other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Faculty.

NOTE: A Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment (BSZ98) or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104 or TAE40110) does not count as a vocational qualification for entry purposes.

Students who hold a Diploma of Teaching (Technical) or a three year teaching diploma outside the VET sector are also eligible to apply.

Associate Degree in Adult and Vocational Education

Students must have a recognised vocational qualification as noted below:

For students who have completed the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment an additional standard credit package will be issued. This is represented as VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points and will appear as a Forward Credit (FCR) conditional upon the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning
(Note: students who receive the VET02C Forward Credit (FCR) on entry must have completed the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and provided a copy of their Certificate and transcript prior to enrolling in EEB312).

Other credit arrangements include:

  • If a student is in the process of completing* the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment then proof of enrolment in this course needs to be provided at the point of Application for Admission to allow the VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 FCR to be applied.
  • Students who do not fully complete the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will have the VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points FCR rescinded and will be required to complete the full 'without CertIVTAA-TAE40110' course program.
  • Students who do not possess the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment before entering, will be required to complete three CSU subjects (EPT331/EPT332/EPT333), which have the TAE40110 embedded within it. At the end of the course (provided all the relevant subjects are successfully completed through full enrolment and study with the University) students can apply to CSU Advance, the University's Registered Training Organisation, for the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment to be issued. This credential attracts a fee and further inquiries can be made direct to CSU Advance on 02 69332773 or by email to csutraining@csu.edu.au
  • Students who possess the BSZ98 Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment or the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment only, have the option of completing the whole CSU Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education course, or upgrading to the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (either through CSU Advance or any RTO that offers it) and then enter the Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education with the TAE40110 and apply for the VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 -16 subject points credit (as indicated above).
  • Credit for a partially completed (with no intention to fully complete) TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment will not be granted.
  • Credit for a TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment will not be granted following admission to a Adult and Vocational Education program. Due to the nature of the specific course structures it is not possible for this credit to be retrospective and must therefore be applied for at the point of admission.

For students who commenced their course with CSU before Autumn Session 2006 then the following arrangements apply:

  • The BSZ98 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training and TAA40104/TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment was not addressed in the previous course structures.
  • If students held the BSZ98 Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training or the TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment upon entry may now consider upgrading to the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
  • If students who upgrade to the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment while studying an VET program under the pre-2006 course structure no credit will be granted towards the Bachelor Vocational Education and Training.

Formal arrangements for the award of the Certificate IV in Training & Assessment TAE40110 have been made with CSU Advance.

Graduates from the Canberra Institute of Technology Advanced Diploma of Adult Vocational Education, who meet the entry criteria and hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment  (TAE40110), will receive credit for a range of subjects that may include:

  • The standard entry credit level package of 64 subject points - this is represented as VET08C Entry Level Vocational Credit
  • VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points that will appear as a Forward Credit (FCR) conditional upon the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning

and the following subjects:

  • EML102 Written Communication - PCR

Students from the Australian Defence Forces will receive credit for entry level vocational credit and specified subject(s) comprising:
 

  • The standard entry credit level package of 64 subject points. This is represented as VET08C Entry Level Vocational Credit;
  • EPT332 Training in Adult and Vocational Education - 8 points TCR based on completion of the - ARMY Training Supervisor Course or – the ARMY Recruit Instructor Course and the ARMY Junior Leader Course.
  • EPT333 Assessment in Adult and Vocational Education - 8 points TCR based on completion of the ARMY Qualified Assessor Course and the ARMY Recruit Instructor Course.
  • EPT331 Workplace Training – 8 points TCR based on completion of the - ARMY Junior Leader Course.


Students who meet the entry criteria and hold a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment  (TAE40110) and are graduates of the TAE70111 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice or TAE70110 Vocational Graduate Certificate in Adult Language, Literacy and Numeracy Practice
 

  • The standard entry credit level package of 64 subject points - this is represented as VET08C Entry Level Vocational Credit;
  • VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points that will appear as a Forward Credit (FCR) conditional upon the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning

Associate Degree in Adult and Vocational Education

This credit is based on the following entry criteria: Students must have a recognised vocational/professional qualification such as a Certificate III as part of a completed apprenticeship leading to trade recognition and accreditation and a minimum of threee years relevant industry experience; an advanced certificate (Certificate IV), associate diploma, diploma or the appropriate tertiary qualification and a minimum of three years relevant industry experience; or possess other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Faculty.

For students who have completed, or can provide evidence of current enrolment in, the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment an additional standard credit package will be issued. This is represented as VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points and will appear as a Forward Credit (FCR) conditional upon the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning (note: students who receive the VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit Forward Credit (FCR) on entry must have completed the TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and provided a copy of their Certificate and transcript prior to enrolling in EEB312).

Other credit arrangements include:

ASSOCIATE DEGREE IN ADULT AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATION (3113VE)

All students receive a standard entry credit level package of 64 subject points based on the entry criteria: a recognised vocational/professional qualification including: a Certificate III as part of a completed apprenticeship leading to trade recognition and accreditation and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience; or an advanced certificate (Certificate IV), associate diploma, diploma or the appropriate tertiary qualification and a minimum of three years relevant industrial experience; or possess other qualifications deemed to be equivalent by the Faculty. This entry credit is represented as VET08C Entry Level Vocational Credit. The duration of the course in equivalent full time years is 1.0.

For students in the Associate Degree in Adult and Vocational Education who have completed, or provide evidence they are currently enrolled and completing, the TAE 40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, an additional standard credit package will be issued. This is represented as VET02C - Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points and will appear as a Forward Credit (FCR) conditional upon the successful completion of the subject EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning. This VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit will exempt students from the following subjects: EPT331 Workplace Training; EPT332 Training in Adult and Vocational Education and EPT333 Assessment in Adult and Vocational Education. Actual course duration with additional credit package (FTE): 0.75

This is represented as VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit - 16 subject points and will appear as a Forward Credit (FCR) conditional upon the successful completion of EEB312 Reflective Practice and Lifelong Learning. This VET02C Certificate IV TAE40110 Credit will exempt students from the following subjects: EPT331 Workplace Training; EPT332 Training in Adult and Vocational Education and EPT333 Assessment in Adult and Vocational Education. Actual course duration with additional credit package (FTE): 1.75

Students with tertiary qualifications and/or experience beyond the minimum level (a recognised technical/vocational qualification such as a recognised trade proficiency certificate (Certificate III), advanced certificate (Certificate IV), associate diploma, diploma or the appropriate tertiary qualification or equivalent, and a minimum of three years' relevant industrial experience) may be eligible for credit in some subjects. Note: A BSZ98 Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment or a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA 40104 or TAE 40110) does not count as a vocational qualification for entry purposes.

Students in the general Bachelor of Adult and Vocational Education degree will select Elective subjects as noted below. Students undertaking a specialisation must include all subjects noted in the relevant specialisation for their program as listed below.

Student must select 48 points (six subjects) from those listed above. With approval from the Course Director two subjects (16 points) may be selected from within or without the University.
