The Bachelor of Horticulture with specialisations in Production Horticulture and Environmental Horticulture aims to develop a multi-skilled professional capable of fulfilling a range of management and leadership roles.The Production Horticulture strand focuses on technical and business management training for the fruit, nut, vegetable and flower industries and places an emphasis on the integration of the science and technology of horticulture with business management capability. The Environmental Horticulture strand focuses on technical and applied science training for the amenity, landscaping and environmental horticulture industries. This course includes practical experience through workplace learning.

Normal course duration

Bachelor of Horticulture

Full-time 3 years (6.0 sessions)

Part-time 6.0 years (12.0 sessions)

Normal course duration is the effective period of time taken to complete a course when studied Full-time (Full-time Equivalent: FTE). Students are advised to consult the Enrolment Pattern for the actual length of study. Not all courses are offered in Full-time mode.

Admission criteria

CSU Admission Policy

The purpose of setting minimum tertiary admission is to ensure that students will have appropriate knowledge and skills to succeed at University. To be admitted into the Bachelor of Horticulture, students must demonstrate one or more of the following:
1. Successful completion of a minimum of one year of study in a relevant certificate 4 course or above as accredited against AQF, provided by TAFE or other accredited vocational education provider
2. A combination of professional experience (minimum 3 years), incomplete tertiary studies and vocational studies to the satisfaction of the Courses Director.
3. University UAI of 70 (or equivalent) or above for recent school leavers

CSU Credit Policy

Standard CSU Credit Regulations apply.

The following provisions for Credit from TAFE courses apply:

  • Certificate 3: Up to 8 points
  • Certificate 4: Up to 32 points
  • Diploma: Up to 64 points
  • Advanced Diploma: Up to 96 points

Graduation requirements

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 192 points.

Restricted electives can be chosen from any level 2 or above subjects with codes AGB, AGR, AGS, AHT, ASC, PSC, IRR, VIT or HRT as well as SCI301 International Practical Experience (when appropriate). Other codes may be allowed if appropriate rationale is provided and accepted by the Courses Director. Students should also consider FDS305 – Quality Assurance.
