The Bachelor of Theology is offered in conjunction with St Mark's National Theological Centre in Canberra and United Theological College in North Parramatta to equip students to undertake lay religious ministry functions or to pursue ordination. The Bachelor of Theology aims to deepen students' faith understanding in whatever context they live or work. Students can choose to study only theology subjects or they can integrate their study of theology with another area of interest to further enrich their program. Students looking to ordination or professional ministry can access subject offerings which are vocationally oriented, ecumenically sensitive and integrated with practical experience.

The Associate Degree in Theology provides an to the main areas of theology, including biblical studies, theological studies, church history, and practical ministry. Students learn foundational areas of study across the general theological curriculum. The course provides a platform and incentive for further theological study. Graduates acquire basic knowledge in biblical studies, theological studies, church history, and practical theology; develop basic skills in critical thinking in theology; develop an understanding of current developments in theological and biblical studies and their relevance to ministry contexts; and develop a capacity to undertake further studies in theology beyond the Diploma level.

Students who complete Clinical and Pastoral Education from an accredited institution will receive 16 points of credit as THL221 Clinical and Pastoral Education in the subdiscipline of Practical Theology.

Articulation

The Bachelor, Associate Degree [Exit Point Only] and Diploma [Exit Point Only] make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower.

Enrolment Pattern

There is a degree of flexibility in the course structure, suitable to the large number of part time and distance education enrolments. Students are encouraged to complete first the eight 100 level subjects that serve as a foundation to the four sub-disciplines. As well, students with poorly developed academic study skills should enrol in COM120 Reasoning, Values and Communication as one of their subjects during their first session. Students will structure their progress through the degree according to the requirements in the degree and to availability of subjects in a given session.

Students must ensure that they meet the Exit Point award structure in order to exit with their chosen qualification.
