The Master of Arts (Classical Arabic) aims to develop advanced classical Arabic language proficiency and independent research and analytical skills in classical Islamic texts. Students will study subjects which assist them to develop an advanced understanding of Arabic grammar through the study of Islamic texts written in classical Arabic. The course aims to develop the student's proficiency in the recitation of the Qur'an together with advanced writing, speaking and reading skills in Modern Standard Arabic language. Throughout the course, students will develop a level of expertise in classical Arabic and an ability to understand and analyse the Quran in its original Arabic form and hence supplement a particular field of Islamic Studies.
The Graduate Diploma of Classical Arabic aims to develop intermediate level of proficiency in classical Arabic language together with a foundational knowledge and analytical skills in the study of classical Arabic. Students will study subjects which will assist them in developing an intermediate understanding of Arabic grammar through the study of Islamic texts written in classical Arabic. The course aims to develop in students proficiency in the recitation of the Qur'an and intermediate writing, speaking and reading skills in Modern Standard Arabic language in addition to classical Arabic.
This course aims to develop a foundational level of proficiency in classical Arabic language together with broad-based knowledge and critical skills in the study of the classical Arabic language. Students will study subjects which will assist them to develop a foundational understanding of Arabic grammar. The course aims to prepare students for further academic study in classical Arabic and to assist students develop a basic proficiency in the recitation of the Qur'an together with introductory writing, speaking and reading skills in Arabic language.

CSU Credit PolicyMaster of Arts (Classical Arabic)
Students who have successfully completed either the Graduate Certificate in Classical Arabic or the Graduate Diploma of Classical Arabic or equivalent will be awarded credit for subjects successfully completed within those programs towards the Master of Arts (Classical Arabic).
Graduate Diploma of Classical Arabic
Students who have successfully completed Graduate Certificate in Classical Arabic or equivalent will be awarded credit for subjects successfully completed within that program towards the Graduate Diploma of Classical Arabic.
Graduate Certificate in Classical Arabic
No special arangements apply.
Articulation
The Master, Graduate Diploma and Graduate Certificate make up an articulated set of courses and credit is given in each higher level course for the subjects completed in the lower.
