Abstract

Rural Change (Industry Projects) is designed for students to build on their previous learning on the application of management theories in practice. Students will undertake a period of work experience during which they will identify a management problem or opportunity. They will define a problem/opportunity and undertake a logical and documented process leading to recommendations for situation improvement and plans for implementation and the evaluation of outcomes.

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
be able to enter and observe a social context - such as a human community or workplace - and develop an understanding of the relationships between individuals, and the roles they fill; and of the forces that constrain, and the structures that influence values, assumptions, policies and practices within the organisation
be able to appraise the effects of these interactions on the organisation's stated or unstated goals or shared aspirations
be able to choose and justify a suitable theoretical perspective and method of inquiry to identify, in consultation with the stakeholders, a hypothesis for situation improvement
be able to develop, through consultation, appropriate situation improvement strategies and implementation timetable
be able to provide a method for evaluating the situation improvement program

be able to evaluate the entire industry research project and report to the academic supervisor
be able to reflect critically on the experience and relate it to their experience as a lifelong learner

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
The subject draws on concepts developed in Rural Change (Inquiry Tools) and requires the student to apply them in a real world situation. Greater emphasis is placed on qualitative research.
