ASC370 Ruminant Production and Welfare (8)
Abstract
The subject is designed to develop in students an understanding of extensive ruminant production systems as well as some of the more intensive aspects of production where relevant to particular species (excluding feedlots). It focuses on aspects of herd/flock management namely production efficiency, reproduction, market/profit drivers, husbandry and animal welfare.. For those students studying by distance education, this subject has a compulsory 3 days residential school. During the residential school a number of practical activities will be undertaken to provide a practical application to the theory taught in the subject. Furthermore, the residential school has been designed to ensure that the learning experiences of the students enrolled via distance education are equitable to those of students enrolled internally in the subject |
