Professional communication is a diverse and dynamic field spanning a range of contexts, disciplines and literatures. This subject helps students to ‘map’ the communication field and critically reflect on important trends and influences including social, technological, ethical, legal, cultural and practice issues, for the field generally, and for students’ particular discipline of interest.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:

  • demonstrate ability to reflect critically on trends and influences from different stakeholder and other perspectives
  • demonstrate ability to think critically about tensions between change and status quo within their own field of practice, and make high level judgments concerning future trends or policy

  • Communication practice, professionalism and stakeholder perspectives
  • Power, symbolic power and discourse
