Abstract

Individually supervised research during which students critically evaluate the practice of chosen arts practitioners in a selected professional workplace.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to formulate appropriate topics and research questions
- be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills to undertake, document and evaluate research into a professional environment
- be able to critically evaluate the concerns, strategies and processes of the field of study or professional area
- be able to demonstrate the skills to undertake, document and evaluate research into the work of a selected practitioner
- be able to analyse the preparation, planning and implementation of professional roles
- be able to demonstrate the ability to analyse the achievements of their chosen practitioner(s) in the light of their stated and unstated goals

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
dependant upon the area of specialisation negotiated between the student and their supervisor. Each student will however: - select a workplace and practitioners that fall within one of the - specialist areas of communication and the performing arts offered in the undergraduate degrees - critically evaluate the concerns, strategies and processes of their chosen workplace and practitioners - employ appropriate research, documentation, evaluation and reporting processes - undertake analysis of the preparation, planning and - implementation of professional roles - undertake analysis of the goals and achievements of a selected practitioner(s)
