Abstract

Through this subject, students will explore current issues in teaching literacy and numeracy in the adult and vocational educational contexts. The subject will examine a number of current theory and policy positions and their impact on teaching and learning practices.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to articulate the issues associated with literacy and numeracy teaching practices within the adult and vocational education context;
  • be able to engage with different positions on literacy and numeracy education put forward in political and social debates around literacy education; and
  • be able to develop a theoretical framework for programming and teaching literacy and/or numeracy to diverse groups of learners.
