EEB506 Professional Practice in Education and Training (8)

Abstract

Students who have completed at least 32 credit points of their Masters degree will be able to undertake a program of supervised workplace experience in this capstone subject. Students will spend 140 hours during one semester working on a project or activity in a private or public sector organisation under the guidance of a workplace mentor and an academic assessor. The type of work experience will vary, with students undertaking placement with suitable organisations in the further education, higher education and/or training sector where they will be involved in a range of activities in open, online or distance education.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • have completed a supervised workplace project relevant to a student's academic study program;
  • be able to apply theoretical and practice knowledge to practical workplace problems;
  • use cognitive, creative, analytical, critical and practice skills to successfully engage in a range of professional practices;
  • use advanced speaking, reading, writing, listening, digital literacy, interpretative and advocacy skills in a range of professional practices.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
  • For this subject there is no set syllabus. Workplace experience will differ for each student depending on the host organisation and specific assigned project. The nature of the work experience will be determined jointly by a workplace mentor and an academic member of staff. Communication between student, workplace mentor and academic supervisor will be maintained for the duration of the project. At the conclusion of the workplace experience, each student will be required to prepare a report and make a presentation at a workshop attended by fellow students and academic supervisors.

This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 15 to 25 days duration. This subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 20 days duration (140 hours). Students will prepare for, work on and communicate the outcomes of a project or activity in a private or public sector organisation under the guidance of a workplace mentor and an academic assessor. Workplace experience will differ for each student depending on the host organisation and specific assigned project.
