EEL426 Adoption of Open Educational Practices (4)

Abstract

Online learning environments provide an unprecedented opportunity to increase student access to higher education. Although online learning has seen rapid growth in recent years, open education remains a relatively small percentage of the entire online offering today. Open educational resources hold the potential to reconfigure policy, course development, teaching/learning delivery, and accreditation. However, accomplishing this much-needed goal of greater access requires active participation and cooperation among governments, corporations and educational institutions from a broad spectrum of institutional settings. This subject offers a detailed overview of the development of openness in education, current trends including creative commons licensing, IP addresses and technological developments, as well as future directions. Through a series of online discussions, desk research and interactive presentations, educators, managers and trainers from all sectors will be able to understand the benefits of open education
and harness it to benefit their own professional contexts.
