EHR217 Principles of Sports Coaching and Performance (8)

Abstract

This subject addresses the major issues related to athlete development from a coaching perspective. By identifying systems and behaviours inherent to the coaching process, different coaching philosophies, objectives and methods will be explored and evaluated for their influence on athletic undertakings. Factors that promote athlete and team variation will be evaluated with a purpose of enhancing coach-athlete communication, feedback and demonstration processes. Challenges facing the modern coach such as ethical dilemmas, managerial aspects of athlete and team behaviour, and public media relations will be addressed. Finally, the theoretical and practical application of technology, drugs and ergogenic aids will be investigated.
