Abstract
This subject explores the relationship between physical activity and health. Emphasis is placed on examining evidence justifying the application of exercise prescription in the primary, secondary and tertiary prevention of selected cardiovascular, metabolic, respiratory, neurological and musculoskeletal diseases. The subject will investigate a range of topics including pathophysiology, risk assessment and exercise testing and programming with a particular focus on the exercise dose response. Physical activity, health and exercise prescription issues in pregnancy and older adults are also addressed. Laboratory work will include theoretical and practical components involving health appraisal, pre-exercise screening, risk management and exercise testing and programming. |
