ENM424 Environmental Internship (24)
Abstract
This subject seeks to develop skills related to a number of management systems in environmental science. In particular, the focus will be on skills in asset, risk, financial and capacity management incorporating key administrative and workplace skills appropriate to environmental science graduates. This is a capstone subject (i.e. a subject that integrates prior learning from other subjects in the course) for the Bachelor of Environmental Science and Management. Assessment tasks are based on the industry project undertaken, where the student investigates and reflects upon the context and processes of management in the work environment that they observe and experience and an analysis of management outcomes.The subject contains a total estimated workload of 480 hours. On completion the student will have demonstrated the ability to apply their knowledge and skills to professional practice. |

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- The syllabus is dependant upon the area of specialisation and will be negotiated between the student and their Subject Coordinator. Each student will, however:
- select a professional project that falls within one of the specialist areas offered
- undertake a critical evaluation of the concerns, strategies and processes necessary for their project
- undertake analysis in the preparation for, planning of and implementation of the project
- apply a broad and coherent body of knowledge to a range of contexts in professional work and use communication skills to be part of a work team
- undertake analysis of the goals and achievements of the project

Work Place LearningThis subject contains a Compulsory Workplace Learning component of 50 days duration.
Students will undertake a 10 week project with an environmental business, agency or government department in which students develop a project based work programme designed and supported by industry and informed by best practice in environmental management.
