GER503 Leadership in Complex Aged Care Practice (8)

Abstract

This subject aims to build the capacity of experienced health and aged care practitioners to be able to lead
interdisciplinary care teams, address complex care issues, manage change and lead provision of high
quality care.The subject will examine a number of complex issues arising in aged care and will investigate
and apply models of advanced interdisciplinary practice together with clinical leadership strategies to
explore the management of these issues within aged care practice. Complex care issues addressed
will include elder abuse, sexuality and intimacy in aged care, care planning, and pain management.
Investigation of these issues will enable students to develop and apply advanced skills in assessment,
clinical decision-making, communication, interdisciplinary team leadership and change management.

  • be able to explore and articulate their own personal values, skills, practice experience and disciplinary knowledge.

  • Elder abuse
  • Sexuality and intimacy in ageing and aged care
  • Identification and management of pain in frail older persons
