Abstract
This subject is provides experience in guided research for students who intend to continue from the Bachelor of
Islamic Studies to Bachelor of Islamic Studies (Honours). As a result, enrolment in this subject requires the approval of the Subject coordinator. The subject allows for the research of an approved topic in a chosen Islamic Studies sub-discipline, to be determined in consultation with the Subject coordinator. Students are expected to demonstrate the use of appropriate methodology, research, writing
and communication skills through the presentation of a major essay in their topic area. |

Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to discuss critically issues in a chosen Islamic Studies subdiscipline arising from the investigation of an approved research topic
- be able to demonstrate consultative and communications skills in developing and exploring an appropriate research project
- demonstrate self-guided learning, including advanced research, writing and communication skills

SyllabusThe subject will cover the following topics:
- The development of an approved research topic in consultation with the Subject Coordinator
- Guided reading and critical analysis of relevant texts
- Regular contact between student and Subject Coordinator during the development of the research
- Analysis, critical methodology, theoretical framework and close attention to texts
