Describe the basics of computers and connection to the Internet; Identify layers in the general model of communication; Evaluate network devices; Describe how standards ensure greater compatibility and interoperability; Understand networking at the physical layer of the OSI model; Describe the operation of Ethernet, Ethernet framing and error handling; Describe the different types of collisions that occur on Ethernet networks; Understand the process of making and testing cables; Understand LAN standards; Perform subnetting; Understand network to network communications; Identify the functions of the TCP and UDP protocols; Describe and compare IPv4 and IPv6; Understand the basics of the session, presentation and application layers; Perform tasks related to using the router interface and interface modes; Perform basic networking tests using commands; Describe the function of WAN devices, technologies and standards; Identify the router boot sequence and setup mode; Configure a router; Understand basics of the Cisco IOS operating system; Create and assign new subnet numbers to a network topology; Understand the context of different routing protocols; Troubleshoot problems in small-to-medium sized networks; Create firewalls by using access control lists.
