ITI577 IT Service Release, Control and Validation (8)

Abstract

This subject gives students the skills to apply ITILŪ best practices when releasing changes in the IT infrastructure, while minimizing the adverse effects of such actions. ITIL best practices focus on the integration of key processes, enabling a stable IT environment. This subject will demonstrate how the linkage of Change, Release and Configuration Management processes can help to achieve this goal.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to plan the key activities in the Change, Release and Configuration Management processes;
- be able to plan the exchange of appropriate information relevant to managing the Release and Control processes;
- be able to initiate actions to ensure the key activities in the Release and Control processes meet the agreed objectives set;
- be able to report on the effectiveness and efficiency of the activities in the Release and Control processes;
- be able to organize the exchange of appropriate information with other processes;
- be able to provide Change, Release and Configuration Management information to other IT Service Management processes, users and suppliers;
- be able to maintain the procedures of the Release and Control processes;
- be able to maintain the baselines of configurations and status information of Configuration Items;
- be able to provide instructions for designing, building and configuring releases;
- be able to advise on the back-out and test plans for changes and releases;
- be able to plan the implementation of releases;
- be able to monitor the logistics (storage, transport, development and/or delivery, implementation) for releases (whether purchased or developed internally);
- be able to coordinate and monitor changes (including preparing and taking part in Change Advisory Board meetings);
- be able to monitor and optimize the Release and Control processes;
- be able to propose improvements, based on results of monitoring and/or reviews;
- be able to plan and conduct change, release and configuration audits.
