Learning OutcomesUpon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of criminology through studying the application of social and behavioural sciences to crime problems in contemporary society
- be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the history of criminology and its association with behavioural and social sciences
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the information and misinformation potential of crime statistics in western society with particular emphasis on application of such in Australian society e.g. insurance companies
- be able to demonstrate a broad understanding of the contribution of distinctive sub-disciplines within criminology including forensic psychology and sociology
- be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of at least one major example of criminology in action - eg 1995.Family Group.Conferencing
- be able to demonstrate an understanding of the alignment between criminology and 'traditional' science |

Students will be introduced to the range of criminological writings on selected crimes - murder, sexual assault, strategies in domestic assault, motor vehicle theft. |
