PHM500 Pharmacy Research Methods (8)


This subject introduces students to the various methodological approaches, both qualitative and quantitative, to pharmacy research. Students will gain an understanding of research design, implementation and analysis and formulate their own research project.

* Understand the primary means for dissemination of research findings;
* Understand the requirements and procedures for ethical, and other approval, for research;
* Define a pharmacy research project using methodologies appropriate to their field of research;
* Complete a review of the literature relevant to the topic of their research project;
* Prepare and present seminars covering their research topic or the methodologies involved

The syllabus will cover the following topics: * Experimental design and implementation * Presentation and analysis of research findings * Ethical issues in research - both human and animal * Approvals required for laboratory based research * Literature searches using electronic databases * Preparation of a literature review
