THL531 Pastoral Counselling: Research Proposal (8)

Abstract

In this subject students will develop a research proposal within a particular area of pastoral counselling. Emphasis will be given to applying the rules and principles of research design within the context of pastoral counselling issues. The student will develop skills in choosing a research topic, conducting literature reviews, initiating research design, and writing a research proposal.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
- be able to demonstrate an ability to plan and execute a research proposal
- be able to demonstrate application of research methodologies, methods of enquiry and data collection appropriate to the chosen area of pastoral counselling study
- be able to generate research questions appropriate to pastoral counselling inquiry
- be able to demonstrate a high order of skill in selection, analysis, critical evaluation and synthesis of literature appropriate to the chosen area of study in pastoral counselling and complete a literature review
- be able to apply an in-depth understanding of the ethical issues involved in the proposed research and to complete any required submissions to the appropriate ethics committee
- be able to present for evaluation, a defensible research proposal
- be able to demonstrate a high order of skill in research, writing and communication skills.

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
Development of a research proposal including: - Appropriate title - Introductions and background - Literature review - Conceptual framework or philosophical approach - Methods and procedures - Proposed form of data analysis - Dissemination of findings - Ethical Issues

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 2 day residential school. During the residential school, students will be asked to present and defend their research proposal.
