ULM504 Strategic Thinking, Analysis and Action (8)

Abstract

This subject builds understanding and appreciation of effective university strategic leadership and management, within both the external and CSU context. Participants will develop knowledge and skills in the areas of strategic analysis, strategic choice and strategic implementation. In this subject particular attention is given to participants’ leadership role in sharing knowledge, and leading others to develop and implement strategy and practise sustainability for longer-term organisational outcomes within the context of resource restraints and a highly politicised tertiary environment.

This subject is only available to students enrolled in the Graduate Certificate in University Leadership and Management course.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
  • be able to identify and explain the key components of strategic management such as strategy analysis, strategy formulation and strategy implementation, and their interrelationships;
  • be able to generate, communicate and implement original strategic solutions using collaborative and contemporary approaches to strategic management within their current leadership situation;
  • be able to critically examine alternative strategies that encourage sustainable practice within resource constraints and organisational capability; and
  • be able to plan, initiate and evaluate their strategic leadership practice, actions and projects to align with and respond to the complex and dynamic internal (CSU) and external environment.
