WEL414 Genetic Counselling (8)

Abstract

This subject aims to provide knowledge of strategies for working with various types and groupings of clients. Counselling strategies and skills development in more complex settings will be practised. Basic case management will be included.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this subject, students should:
Have examined and practised counselling various ages and groups of clients;
Have examined and practised working with distressed clients;
Have practised a set of advanced counselling skills;
Have examined and practised case management processes

Syllabus

The subject will cover the following topics:
Working with individuals, couples, families and children including with interpreters. Working with distressed clients. Working in groups. Resolving conflict. Counsellor burnout. Advanced assessment and counsulting skills including supervision. Case management.

Residential School

This subject contains a compulsory 5 day residential school.
